Technical Requirements

WebCT is a Web-based tool, so basically what you will need to access your WebCT course is a computer capable of connecting to the Internet, and capable of running a supported Web browser (listed below).

  • Note that computers at the minimum system requirements will access the course much slower than newer, faster computers. Also, older machines may have difficulty displaying online multimedia and video. Contact your instructor if you have questions.

  • Check with your instructor or course syllabus for other hardware, software, or materials necessary for your course.

Web Browser

  • Netscape 6.2 or 7.0; Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.5, 6.0
  • Note that the most recent versions of a browser may not be compatible with all features of WebCT.
  • JAVA and Javascript enabled
  • Web browser plug-ins: Macromedia Shockwave, Macromedia Flash, RealPlayer, QuickTime, Windows MediaPlayer, Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • A 56kbs or higher internet connection speed is recommended

Monitor Settings

  • Minimum resolution: 800x600
  • Minimum colors:256

Peripherals

  • CD-ROM or DVD drive
  • Modem: minimum 56K; high bandwidth modem better (cable, DSL, satellite)
  • Printer

Windows 98,ME, 2000 or XP

  • Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
  • At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
  • At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk

Mac® OS 9.x

  • At least 32 MB of RAM with virtual memory set to 64 MB
  • 320 MB of available hard disk space
  • Power Mac G4 or Macintosh Server G4 (all models)
  • Power Macintosh G3 or Macintosh Server G3 (all models)
  • iMac (all models)
  • iBook (all models)
  • PowerBook (all models later than the original PowerBook G3)

OS 10.1.x

  • Mac OS X requires a minimum of 128MB of memory and is designed to run on the following Apple products: iMac®, iBook, Power Macintosh® G3, Power Mac™ G4, Power Mac G4 Cube and any PowerBook introduced after May 1998.
